First no idea really, confused, if this is the right place. But no doubt it will be placed in it's place & I will also be placed in my place. So lets hope I have the right place.

I am going about build all the helicopters & military vehicles which were & have been used in Afghanistan.

As I want to weather & distress the helicopters & vehicles but have little to go on as to the nature of the terrain & atmosphere they worked in.

From what I have seen on TV it seemed very dusty & vehicles seem to pick up a dusting of white on the lower parts. It may be at times wet ? but I do not want to portray a wet character rather the dusty one.

Any help for any one, I know there is at least one, who may be able to help in this filed would be appreciated. Any help in pointing me to pictures in the filed would be thankfully received.

Hi Laurie, I did a bit of research and photo looking at, when I did the April/ June GB on here in 2011.

If you care to wander over to my threads, it's called 'An unfortunate incident' and has, amongst other things, an Afghan house and a Unimog truck.

Also, Google Images is great for info and terrain pictures.

I'm sure the lads will be along with further suggestions any time now....

I hope this will be of some use when you do your own dio.

Progress is just starting to rev up with a Merlin Helicopter & which I will be posting my efforts.

The dust can be achieved by blowing dry plaster of Paris or polyfiller onto a tacky surface Laurie.

If you want a wet look then just spray with some cheapo hair spray when dry

I did a few dusty vehicles for a railway base for a friend of mine, have no pictures to show but it did look very effective.

My mustang scrapyard dio has some areas covered in this method but I tinted the filler with some washes to blend in ... Still you may get an idea what it looks like.

Not sure that the sand will be as thick as that on my Helicopter.

DO not think I would have wanted to fly that aircraft after that bettering.
