right, when i first asked about air compressors a couple of months ago barry pointed one out to me on ebay

(see previous thread)

http://www.scale-models.co.uk/showthread.php?t=3000&highlight=compressor

i have finaly baught one after using my "air in a can" the other day (when it was about 35 degrees C) and i picked it up to shake it and it was more or less frozen and stuck to my hand!)

so anyway i baught the same type that barry pointed out. And as i cant afford a spray booth or an oven hood extractor (noor do i have room for that in my room or garage) i have also baught a resperator mask and suitable filters and pre-filters for it.

all this came to about £105!!!

not bad at all!

now i need to know about air pressures....what is the ideal pressure for spraying with?

thanks

Richard

What Type Of Gun Or Airbrush Are You Using ? Also What Are You Spraying? Enamel, Acrylic, Or Cellulose Or 2 Pack ?

And What Type Of Finish Do You Want ?

Sorry Its 20 Questions But It Will Affect The Outcome !

Thread owner
Depends also on the paint thickness drying time and needle size in your brush ????? just to add lol

Thread owner
argh god!!!

i have a badger 200 and am using acrylics!

i guess il just experiment then!

Thread owner
start with low pressure about 5 or 6 lbs and see if the paint flows reasonably easy, adjust up gradually untill you can draw a fine line without a lot of overspray!!!!

Thread owner
Richard, as with so many things in modelling although you can start with a guideline such as the one Nigel has offerred but you then have to experiment a lot to find the pressure that suits all the many variables you are considering.

Even ambient humidity and temperature play a part in this one so you need to practise a lot on scrap and get a feel of what your differrent parameters require.

thanks alot for the advice guys. its should arrive either today or tomorrow so no doubt i will be practicing all day when it does come!

Thread owner
you will soon get the hang of it..... you will then wonder how you ever coped without an airbrush !!!!then buy a bigger gun like a devilbiss and spray huge model boat hulls, and your mates motorcycle fuel tanks, and then maybe rust spots on your car, and then...........................the jobs are endless !

lol thanks guy, i have had an airbrush for ages iv just been using the "air in a can" for ages and am sick of them now!!!

well...compressor arrived today only to find out it dosnt come with an addaptor....do i cant spray anything untill i get one.

any idea on what size/where i can get them from?

thanks

My hose and fittings came with the airbrush which screws into the can adaptor or directly into the compressor.

The compressor simply has a threaded outlet on it. Does your existing hose disconnect from the can adaptor?

Thread owner
yes but it is too small to fit onto the compressors outlet

***A right pain Richard,if you have a Hobbycraft branch near you they have these carded on the shelf, failing that Hannants have them mail order, make sure that you get one with the breather hole in place, they are brass.

I do wish that they would get their act together on things like this, how many of us have purchased printers with no parrallel port cables in them ? usually discovered at 1 am Sunday evening.

you can get adaptors or reducers, dont worry ! , i got mine from my local artshop/ graphics centre, but try someone like squires maybe for a mail order option....

try somewhere like hobby craft or creative world...............

Try Machine Mart, they often stock couplers and , if can cart the gear, you can check them in shop.
