Hi there.

I'm having trouble getting paint out of my airbrush and I don't know why.

I've been using Tamiya acrylics and Tamiya thinner (1 part thinner/2 parts paint) on a siphon feed brush and it's been working fine.

I now have a different paint - Gunze Sangyo Aqueous Hobby Color - which I've thinned (same ratio as before) with Tamiya thinner. The only problem is it doesn't seem to be coming out as well as the Tamiya paints did. I know the brush isn't blocked because I always make sure I clean it well after use. I've also tried adjusting the air pressure but this doesn't help much.

Any ideas?

Should I thin/thicken the paint a little more?

I've put a first coat on and it's pretty patchy and took about twice as long as it has in the past.

I'm pretty new to airbrushes so I don't know if my ratio is right to begin with but up until now it's worked okay.

Any suggestions would be welcome.

Hi Drew im newish to air brushing never used the gunze paint because the reveiws ive seen on it are not good you may need to thin it more than normal hope this helps

Drew

First thing I would do is to find if the airbrush is working as it should be.

Go back & test it with Tamiya as you were using. If all is OK that eliminates, mostly, the airbrush.

From my experience, if the airbrush is working OK, that it is probably ? a thinner problem. I would test it using various amounts of thinner with the Gunze.

I use Vallejo Air which works well for me. Tried recently, as I did not have the colour in Vallejo, Revell & got into a right mess mostly I think because they need a really great amount of thinner. Have you tried Vallejo Air ?

Job done guys, thanks.

Had a look at that link, Laurie and it said to use about a 1:1 mix of paint and thinner. Did that and we're in business.
