Hi folks, can anyone tell me where I can get a relatively inexpensive pressure gauge to fit either 1/4 inch air line or Badger airbrush size hoses?

And also can you give me a list of pressures i should be using for various tasks, camo painting, thin line painting, varnishing/matt coating etc???

Howdy Stuart,

Well, I am not sure how much help I am going to be in this topic. I am a machinst by trade and I am also a mechanic where I work.....the mechanic was their idea not mine lol. However, the air gauge I have on my compressor and the one I have on my portable air tank are both made by "Festo" and are.... how shall I say this...... uh..."on loan from work" lol. Yes, I pilfered them. However in my defense, I have done several small paint jobs for the company throughout the plant using my own personal equipment.

But to your problem....I would just suggest that you go to your local hardware store or industrial supply company.

Of course there will probably be fittings you will need to go along with any gauge you get so the hardware store might be the best starting point. Be sure to purchase teflon "thread" tape to seal all connections.

I'm not sure how relatively inexpensive you want but I found these a good buy and use one on my Jun-Air compressor:

Make sure you order enough male - female reducers etc or whatever you need for your airbrush too. I'd steer clear of some of the cheaper compressed air accessories which often have such poorly made threads they can be a pain to get air tight unless you want to buy ptfe tape in bulk!

Hi backonthecase

Just set up my compressor/Airbrush and got my Adjustable Regulator/moisture trap from the local car paint supplier but it is made by Sealey tools http://www.toolsbypost.com/category.php?id=734

As for pressures that depends on paint type how thick/thin it is but start at about 15psi and practise and more practise and even more practise

Just a word about the ptfe tape, you will need to check on your compressor to see if it requires an air bleed hole on the output side. This will be a very small hole so easy to miss on a visual inspection.

If so, forget the tape, in this instance a loose fit will be fine.

Thanks Jankers, my compressor has a 5litre (I think) receiver, no sign of a bleed hole, but there's safety valve on the junction. I've used it for a while just running straight to my badger 200, but think I'm gona invest in a pressure guage!
