I have never made a ship model before but as i want to do the Trumpeter HMS Hood 1/700 I thought I had better have a practice run. I picked St Albans as it was a bigger scale (therefore easier to see the bits} but I can barely see some of the smaller parts. Thanks goodness for the magnifying glass. The instructions are a bit on the vague side when it comes to the placement of the smaller parts being a sort of photo reproduction. I think this may take some time to do so any advice would be greatly appreciated. Anyway here are some photos of the box and contents.

Here with a few more photo's, have been really struggling with this one as the bits are so small and I have had several ping off the tweezers and into oblivion. The real problem is that I can't really see what I'm doing even with a magnifier. I think the 1/700 HMS Hood will have to wait until after the cataract operation. If they decide to do it that is.

I noticed that number 2 funnel was at a different angle than the others however it has set so hard that I can't shift it, unlike some other bits which seem to fall off in the slightest breeze.

Here with a few more picture as the uploader for some reason will only let me use the basic uploader and seems to time out if I try more than five piccies. I also notice that the boot topping appears to be curved but if I run a fixed height guage along the side it is level. An optical illusion perhaps.

I have had to put this on hold for the moment as I can't really see what I'm doing. I have to see the cataract specialist in a couple of weeks, he will hopefully get my eyes sorted out so I can continue losing the small bits in the carpet but then be able to see enough to find them.

Hi, Back again with one new mk2 eyeball. Having looked at what I have done so far in a new light as it were, it doesn't look too good. So have put it on hold until I figure out how to fix it. This cataract surgery is pretty good it only took 30 mins and most of that was doing the anaesthetic. I can now read a newspaper again without glasses and isn't the world bright.
