Hi guys

Im taking a rest from 1/72 at the moment and going to start my 1/24 scale Airfix Spifire Mk1a. I have trawled the internet for any pre build information on this model without success. I just wondered if anyone has built one of these and if so what problems I need to look out for. I had a lot of pre build information on my last 1/24 Folkewulf 190 which came in really handy, fore warned is fore armed and all that, but I cant find anything on this Spitfire.

Thanks in anticipation

Well it looks like Im going it alone on this one then.LOL

oh well, into the lions den I go. Ill keep a list of problems I encounter, if there are any, and bring them onto the forum on completion of the model.

Airfix did a booklet as a companion to this kit. I built one over twenty years ago and did have that booklet, unfortunately it has beamed off to another planet,I can't find it anywhere. I'm not sure if they are available anymore.

From memory there are few issues with the kit but I do remember constructing a spar to support the wing, and struggling with the engine covers.

Are there no online build anywhere?Surely someone on Britmodeller or the Airfix forum has built one,it is a Spitfire after all.

Cheers

Steve

Hey Steve (Hunter Steve). As Steve (Stona Steve) says, there are a few build reviews and progress threads from a Google search of your topic.

A start for your research anyway, cheers. Look forward to seeing the Spit evolve over the coming weeks/months/years.

Thanks for that information Steve and Joe. Apart from the cowling fit and wing problem that you encountered Steve it looks a pretty vice free model. Im very impressed with the tooling on this model. Lets hope Airfix have made some improvements over the years. I dont intend to do a "Under Construction" thread because Im a bit of a slow builder but I will photograph and document the build and post something on completion to help others who undertake this project. Thanks again.

I saw a few of those little booklets online last night when I was searching for your links. May pay to check and see if there are any going cheap. Cheers.
