OK, this isn't a Group Build but I hope that some of you will take part.

Sometime in November, just for a bit of fun and remembering that this year is the 70th anniversary of the Battle of Britain, I want as many of you as possible to go out and buy a 1:72 Spitfire, Hurricane or ME109 of the period (if you are not sure if a kit represents a BoB aircraft, shout up and someone will let you know. If anyone can suggest appropriate kits then please do.

Rules: It must be 1:72, it must be one of the three types listed above, your build goes in here, everyones together (what a mess that will be). That is it.

HAVE FUN!

I'm home on the 28th November so if I'm really really quick...............!

Okay,I'll give it a go as long as I can find the stronger lens for my magnifier! A 1/72 fuselage is like a 1/32 drop tank for heaven's sake.

Cheers

Steve

I'm in, but if I'm doing something that small I want to make sure it fits together well, I'm going for Tamiya 1:72 - Supermarine Spitfire Mk I

Oh shut up moaning Steve lol. However, it does make me wonder where I put the box of lenses that came with my headband magnifier.... Oh why don't I think before I post. I want to do a Hurricane I think.

Ooo, bit posh John lol. Do Tamiya do a BoB Hurricane in 1:72? Bet they don't

Thread owner
Just looked on Hannants they dont have one even...

Tony..

I like it Graham, and it'll start after i get my birthday present (Magnifying Visor, woop!) so 1/72 scale will be good for me. Not long done the Hawker Hurricane so it looks like the Spit for me too.

Have fun, John

Evening all, would like to join in the non GB GB but need some advice on what aircraft to buy, any manufacturer that stands out from the rest. Never built a plane before so not worried if its allied or axis. All help gratefully accepted.

Cheers all

If you want the easiest to put together go for a Tamiya, if you want something cheaper and that bit more work to get it looking OK go for an Airfix.

Tamiya will give you a better chance of good results

Looks like the tamiya kit is the way forward then, if i go for a spitfire what mark would have been used in BoB? sorry for the newbie questions.

How about we make it more interesting and EVERYONE taking part build a re-release Airfix 1/72 bagged spit? (A la James Mays toy stories), some of us built em way back, (it was the first proper kit my dad bought for me to build myself) and others will never even have seen one.

But I think it'd make for an interesting comparison as the build rules could be open, i.e. Scratch build as many bits as you like, modify any bits you see fit etc.

I'd be well up for that, I think the variety of finished models would be great to compare, and the best bit? it's only about a fiver!

What do you think folks?

Whichever way it goes, i'm going for a trip down memory lane with an Airfix 1/72 Blue spit, I might even brush paint it if I can cope with the embarrasment of showing it.

:)

Darren I'm not too up on this either and I'm sure I will be corrected if I'm wrong but the MKI worked most of the BoB, I can get you the same as I'm getting if you want, I'm sure with it being Tamiya the quality should be fine.
