Hi all, as a little light relief from the Cutty Sark I wanted to build something I've never done before, has anyone built a robot before.

I've ordered a gundam from bandai (the last of their kits I built was the Pendle princess and the rolls Royce balloon car) (both amazing kits) sadly no longer produced.

If this kit is any where near as good as those kits were it will be great.

I intending to do it (as I love all things old and rusty) neglected in a field somewhere.

Looking forward to its arrival.

Hi Ken,
Not done one myself, however,i have seen a few and they can look most impressive!
If my memory serves Alistair(Road Of Bones) has done one in the past..... or knows about them at least:thinking:,
I look forward to seeing what you do with one.
Cheers,
Andy

The only Bandai kit I’ve built since I was a nipper is the Boba Fett one in 1/12 scale (i.e. Not a gundam). The kit engineering is excellent though- it is designed to make the finished article poseable, however, so it does have a certain toy-like quality to it. I ended up filling joints with green stuff. For a robot though, I expect that will not be a problem.
I like the sound of your idea- have fun!

Gundam is a kind of mecha or giant, humanoid fighting robot from manga and anime (Japanese comics and animation films/series). Not sure what the exact origin is, but Wikipedia likely does:

As for kits: I’ve never built one of these, but I do own a few Robotech models (another mecha series) that were okay, but also somewhat old. Form what I’ve read and seen, modern Gundam kits are very good, especially if you take a look at the technical side of the moulding. You don’t often see multi-coloured sprues, for example.

Well it was supposed to be delivered by the 6 of April but now it's the 30th ( I suppose it's down to recent events)

I thought it was one of those modern dances where you jerk about....

Bandai Gundam kits practically fall together. Their engineering is rather smart. You just need to watch out when weathering though, when using spirits and thinners, make sure the fluid doesn't touch the joints, because the plastic can become brittle and fall apart. Other than that, great kits. They have different sizes and difficulties in their kits, with the Perfect Grades the pinnacle...expensive but very detailed.

Cheers

Technically speaking Gundams aren't robots at all. They are called Mobile Suits, they are giant robot-ish mecha but they are always controlled by a pilot ^^ The name comes from the alloy they are built of: Gundamium. There's a whole universe but going in to detail would be too elaborate.

Cheers

Thanks for the correction. BattleTech is more my thing when it comes to this kind of stuff, so I’m not really up to speed on gundams :)
