Freddie Laker has passed away at the age of 83,he started his career as a factory worker at Short Brothers and Harland,Rochester in 1938, and made the big break buying up war surplus Dakota aircraft used by many small new aurlines during the Berlin airlift during 1948,it was once said that he used enough piston liners to span the world if placed end to end ! it was a chance thing, the right time and the right circumstances.

The well known low-cost transatlantic airline folded during 1982 with losses of some 290 million pounds and thousands of angry passengers stranded.

Despite his shortcomings he will always be remembered as the pioneer of cheap flights we know today.

even branson said he was a true entrepreneur and a shrewd business man,

RIP Freddy

A great idea, ahead of it`s time. I used Freddies "air bus" a lot during the late 70s. Suddenly I was a Jet Setter. RIP indeed.
