In the past I have done a bit of spray painting helping a mate who does re spray's! I was chatting to him a few weeks ago and we worked out the best temp for plastic models to harden the paint off. I have been using this to great effect and can cure any paint in 30 minutes at 65 degree's! I just thought I would share this as when I am using a spray paint I don't need to wait 24 hours for it to cure

I've wondered about trying this for a while, but my oven is gas & even 1/4 of a gas mark is equivalent to 110° Celsius.


Like most things, there seems to be a difference of opinion about unwanted smells/taste when using a domestic oven.


It would be excellent to have a small oven for just this kinda thing. Maybe a second-hand combi oven?

Electric is better as no naked flame! I have done it a lot now and there has never been a taste on my food or a smell left in the oven.

Gonna stick a thermometer on top of the combi boiler and see how warm that little cupboard gets!

Years ago modellers created there own drying boxes using a simple wooden box and running a light bulb into it to act as a heat source. I managed to make one out of an old cigar box, as I recall it did work very well.

I knew someone who tried this back in my university days, got it wrong and the plastic deformed. A Salvador Dali take on modelling.

I have gone to 75 degrees for thicker paint and it was fine but never more than 30 minutes
