I see reference to the word Gustav while researching for my Bf 109 build.


Please can anyone tell me what Gustav means or is.

I believe it was just what they called the G series of the 109 same as the E series was Emil at least that is my interpretation. if Im wrong someone will put me straight

Richard is absolutely correct.


The names "Anton", "Berta", "Caesar", "Dora", "Emil", "Friedrich", "Gustav" and "Kurfurst" were derived from the variant's official letter designation, so Bf 109G – "Gustav"


The same was done with other German aircraft.
