I brought a model magazine a day or two ago as I need to learn technics.

I flicked through,looked at the pictures but haven't had time to read it.

It cost more than £4.

To be honest there were more averts than tips n technics.

Ive joined this forum and learnt a lot already but I don't want to keep asking questions that have been asked time and time again.

I thought about buying a few technic dvds but that's expencive and is limited info.

and then I went onto youtube to research the 48 scale spitfire practice plane im doing.

I came across genesis models complete step by step guide.

the first episode was free.

I then went onto paying 3.99 per month subscribtion.

to watch the other 20 maybe other 20 min videos.

of just this one model with many more too.

my point is for 3.99 per month I have already learnt to dry brush before washing rather than the other way around im used to.

the many different products and uses I did not know about.

and a sit down,I have half hour me time while shes watching corrie time with easy to watch and learn tchnics for less cost than a magazine. blilliant.

I've taken all my (limited) knowledge from Shep Paine diorama books, other resource books, this forum other places on the internet. Youtube is an invaluable resource that should defo not be ignored.

the only other material I now buy is the Mig magazine that comes out quarterly and is sold through john's shop.

I have been using youtube for a while now and it is an amazing resource, i have a small collection of books including shepard paines How to build dioramas, it covers everything you will need in modelling including figure painting i recomend this book highly.

I have only used here and You Tube and have learn't tons of new and different techniques for doing things, which I have still need to have a go at, however, I have used what I have learnt on You Tube about using an airbrush, and the best part is, they where all free...

To be honest you can find anything for nothing on the internet as Andy says.

Ive always been of a mind where I begrudge paying for something if I can get it for nothing, in this case most of the topics on the subscription sites are available on other sites and video blogs etc for free.... I pay silly amounts (as we all do) for my broadband connection so I use it to my financial advantage.

As unethical as it sounds, there are people out there in t'interweb-land that don't think we should have to pay to watch someone's ''home movies''

Techniques learned are many fold-forums (use the search), internet, magazines etc. But, techniques are only part of it, it is down to you to practice and also to sometimes ignore the techniques...I.E do it your way, sometimes a method just doesn't work right on a model + the fact you will adapt a technique to suit your modelling style. It is all trial and error and I am rubbish at a lot of things but we all learn...hopefully.

Steve (ecos) Does not matter if the question has been asked before keep asking & you will get the answer.

Also a good moneys worth is http://www.florymodels.co.uk/. I rob a number of ideas of Phil's amended & discarded some. But they give a good grounding into what you can do.

As said do not take them as the only way. The tutorials are well made entertaining & give lots of info & how to. Most important you see how he does it.

Certainly my model making took off when I looked in on Phil's tutorials.

Was £1:50 a month not sure now but it is cheaper than a magazine & worth 25 times the info. Just looked it up £2:99 per month. You may need only a month but there is lots of stuff to see & learn.

As everyone has said there is now a wealth of info out there......and I second Laurie, don't worry about asking questions, even if you do think they've been asked before. You will get the answer, assuming someone knows it, and not some asinine or sarcastic reply (have you tried google for example) as I've seen elsewhere.
