looking for some hints finishing off my trumpeter 1/32 bf109g-2 hadn't fixed the canopy down dropped something on the table not noticing the canopy fell on the floor got up on noticing the canopy wasn't there found it on the floor unfortunately I had stood on the front split it in two pieces. Now I'm left with a crack up the middle so will make it has been strafed with bullets so what's the best way of representing bullet holes in the fuselage any ideas I don't really want to put actual holes in the model.

I think I've got a spare 1/32 Erla canopy somewhere Jim - might be easier than messing about with painted on bullet holes?

PM me if it's of interest to you.

Cheers

Hi Jim, I reckon the only way to show bullet holes is to make holes!

When I did this crash landed B-17, I tried all roads up to paint bullet holes and nothing was satisfactory. I ended up using a red hot needle pushed through the fus. from both sides to try and replicate both entry and exit holes.

I would go with Patrick and get hold of a new canopy.

There again, there must have been some aircraft still in action with cracked canopies.

If it's not a silly question Jim, how come you're so reluctant to use actual holes? As Ron says, it's easy enough to do with either a hot needle or a pin vice and small drill.

Probably scared I'll make a mess of the model although I'm not adversed to beating up a model never having done any aircraft before I might contemplate it.

Hello Jim,

I would get a new canopy but if you go with bullets holes just let rip with a drill, here is the front armour plate off my wo bot model which I have just posted on line drill the holes try it on a test piece of plastic first the just go for it.

I too might have a 1/32 windscreen for a bf109 G knocking about. I'll look tomorrow. Don't be in a rush to drill those bullet holes, not least because RAF fighters were using cannon by the time the G-2 entered service, and a cannon shell made a right mess :)
