Hi Folks,

I'm new here as I have just got back into modelling to help my young lad learn.

I'm hanging his planes on his ceiling...is there a way you can have fire and / or smoke coming from a plane...like it's on it's way down after a dogfight?

This is my 1/144 Heinkel 111 dio smoking.

I used to have mine hanging from the ceiling as a youngster and, as Si, found that cotton wool painted up made the best smoke from a shot up plane. Then you lay on your bed at night and flash your torch at them to simulate flak bursts and searchlights to get the real effect.

Now I'm giving too much away!!

Flashlights and Flak...that sounds really cool! He'd love that!!!

To get a flame effect, you firstly get some cotton wool and roll it into a sausage shape, I sprayed mine two tones of grey and then black near the engine-now for the flame effect (I opted for just hot sparks) you use silicone to create flames from the engine and then the onto the smoke, once the silicone has gone off simply paint in oranges/yellows/reds etc.
