I guess that's a shot across my bows - or more like a direct hit.


For most modellers, money doesn't play a part in how much they pay for a model or after market stuff for that matter.


It was a personal opinion when I stated the kits Polux bought cost £300 and that's something on the moon as far as my dinner money is concerned. I'm not in the slightest bit interested what folks spend, that's their business.


I am deeply offended by the inference that I was "more worried about the price of the kits" than the actual modelling aspect of your build, I was thoroughly enjoying the start of the building process.


I'm saddened to see you have ended your build because of my mentioning the kit price. There was no mischief intended, just an observation.


I future I will be very, very careful what, and when I post..............

But seems some people just look the price of the kit, not your skills. Personally I thought that is a pity!!!


I see some 1£ Airfix models that turns an oustanding models, and some ones that cost 209£ that was horrible!!!


There are all kind of modelers out there. Goods, very goods or masters!!


Or you Ron! A master one of the scratch build!!


I admire all them. But I never pay attention to the money they spend on his models. Is all!!!


And my most sincer apologies if some members feel offended (specially Ron).

I'm with Steve! Our hobby is a very personal & individual pursuit, from what we build & how. That includes the cost of the kits.


I work to a tight budget, so I'd never be able to spend a lot, but I truly enjoy watching other people build the expensive stuff. It's like driving a Kia, but still marvelling at a Lamborghini


Don't stop your thread Polux, I haven't got round to seeing it yet! And knowing Ron, there was no intent to criticise I'm sure of that.


As Steve rightly said, it's very easy to misinterpret the written word - even more so across languages & international borders.

For me the cost of the kits, and aftermarket bits (if any) is meaningless. It is what is done with it that counts.

I have asked before regarding price, mainly on roymattblack's amazing builds. But only to get an idea of how much these things cost, also they are in another league regarding models.


I think sometimes it can be difficult for some members to get their head around a kit for £300 when it could have bought so many others, some cannot see the point, others maybe jealous. I can never afford a expensive kit, my 1/16 Tiger I was £100 and that is about my limit, but I had loads of fun messing around with it. Not envious if folk can afford it or have saved up, go for it.


If you can afford it and want it, then get it and enjoy it Polux.

That way no-one would have taken offence & then a general 'cost of kits' thread could have been posted.

Yep, keep posting your build Polux, we all have off days and that no doubt applies to both sides of your issue.


I had an off day recently and all my modelling gear and kits almost went in the bin while I b******d off to the pub. The only time price becomes a 'thing' for me is what I tell the missus I paid versus what I actually paid.

I don't worry about the cost, I can't afford things like poacher kits, but believe me if I could afford them I would have them people buy according to what they fancy and can afford, and that is as it should be, keep your spirits up mate, we all know you are an exceptional Modeler whatever the cost 1£ or 1000000£s you will always produce a masterpiece, there are a lot of modelers on here I look upto and you are in the top rank IMHO. Onward to the next masterpiece mate, keep at it.

We've all been there Polux! These things happen


Open up your thread again, and carry on. That's probably what Ron was more upset about than you starting this thread my friend.


It's a fact of life that some people have more disposable income than others, no matter what they spend it on. To some a £100 kit is like another's £50 one.


I've seen posts where people ask what kit to buy with a budget of £50, and then suggestions come in going up to 3 times that amount! Nothing wrong with that because we're all different & also passionate about the kits we love.


There's enjoyment in a well-engineered kit like one of the Tamiya 1/32 aircraft kits. I'm sure they're a pleasure to build & worth the high purchase price.


Similarly there's a great deal of satisfaction from an old cheap kit - triumphing over the flaws & getting a great result.


We see all sides of the modelling spectrum here & long may that continue!

Group hug for Polux , It shouldn't matter how much it cost provided you enjoy building it! I have my eye on a £200 Harley and when I have the cash I will buy it. The only problem is I will be scared stiff of mucking it up
