discussion Clear part disaster

Hi all,

Well first few days into my first build, in well lets say thirt five years.

Currently doing 1:48 westland lynx HMA8.

I have dipped the clear parts in klear and had good results.

Unfortunately the two side windows must of had floors that I hadn't noticed.

I re-dipped these but still the same.

After leaving for 24hrs I decided to rub them down and polish them up using sanding sticks .

Unfortunately I didn't seem to be able to buff them up. Used fine grades up to buffing stick.

Thought I'd re dip again. But just wishful thinking.

airfix kit?.....try sending off for a replacement set

try redipping, cant do any harm

Youch nasty. Yes send of to Airfix. Just done the same for a replacement decal. I said I had messed up and said I expected to pay. Cost £6.If you are sure I would say that the flaw was there.

Interesting was the flaw in the surface or in the plastic thickness ? On my merlin build 90% of the clear plastic had flaws in built in the plastic. 8 sets of replacements sent. Still all more or less the same.

Another piece on the same model I did not know if my or their fault. Told them and they sent the piece free of charge.

They have been a bit lax lately so after a few days remind them.

Dipping in windex might help remove the old Klear.

Quick update, couldn't find windex but found a simular products in Mr muscle window cleaner. Don't know how successful the strip back an re dip is going to be yet . But wow it certainly cleans acrylic paint up !!! Cleaned all my paint mixing pot and cutting mat . Recommend well ventilated area when used, smells strong [emoji6]

That just needs polishing with a much finer material and then re-dipping in Klear.

Yep just keep polishing and then buffing a dip and it will be good.

Look as this Dazaiki, http://www.scale-models.co.uk/community/threads/f16c-block-25-32-falcon-1-48-tamiya.10483/ my posting #20 it's the way I remove seams from canopies and the sanding and polishing would work equally well for your problem. Cheers Derek
