The son of the professor and researcher Charcot was so keen to become a sailor that whenever his father tried to talk him out of it, he would reply: "Marin, pourquoi pas?" (A sailor, why not?). Eventually this was to be the name he gave to his ocean research ship. It sank two miles off the coast of Iceland in 1936.

The kit comes in a very strong suitcase type box with hinged lid.

Opening the lid, reveals a set of trays, with individually packed and numbered fittings, this tray was sealed on a plastic sleave which I have removed for the purpose of this review.

Lifting out the top tray exposes the second tray containing the wood for the keel, frames, deck housings, display stand etc which are pre-cut by water jet.

Under this woodwork are the instructions and plans. There are as you can see, two very comprehensive booklets provided; one which is a step by step pictorial assembly instruction, the other contains comprehensive written instructions and a bill of materials.

Finally there are three off to scale drawings: -

I have made Caldercraft and Billings Kits in the past, but this is by far the best packed Kit and best for assembly instructions I have ever seen.

The fittings look first class, and the wood chosen for the wood strips have obviously been chosen with great care for their chosen purpose.

This is an ideal kit for someone who wants to venture into 'plank and frame' construction for the first time.

This kit was purchased from Constructo Le Pourquoi-Pas? - 80835 | HobbyStores at a very competative price (still available at time of writing this review).

This vessel was used for Antarctic exploration, and I will be cannibalizing it for making the S.Y Scotia, see link below for background history.
