Finally completed this one, first time with PE which was an interesting lesson in patience. Reasonably happy with it but the paintwork could be improved in places, particularly the wheels. I have gone for light weathering as this is an aircraft from August 1940 flown by Fw. Artur Beese of 9/JG26 based at Caffiers in France.

Paintwork looks ok to me Dave, maybe a change of colour on the wheels would look better.. :) .

John.

Looks very nice to me! The wheels were black as on the model. I sometimes lighten the tyres a bit.

Artur Beese was a successful pilot on East and West Fronts, though he was shot down on several occasions. He rose to the rank of Oberleutnant and was shot down and killed in aerial combat with American P-47 fighters near Melun in France on 6 February 1944. He attempted to bale out of his Fw 190 but was killed, probably having struck the tail. He was credited with 22 victories at the time of his death.

Cheers

This is wonderful Dave, would you mind telling me what make and colour the blue is?

Thanks for the kind words. Thanks for the extra history Steve it is always appreciated.

I did intend the tyres to be a bit more grey than black, but after a wash and things they look black.

The blue is Vallejo model air 71.008 hellblau (RLM65).

Superb job on that Dave ......... Really like it.

I agree with John on the wheels ........ Maybe the centres in the blue ????

Thanks all.

I think a scene or diorama or vignette will be for a future build now I have acquired somewhere safe to keep them.

Of course anyone can paint bits of their models any colour they like, but as a point of historical accuracy the wheels on that aircraft would have had a semi-gloss black finish.

As dragged out of a Russian lake:

I appreciate the comments

Thanks for the picture Steve, the hub and the tyre are very close in colour, I think I need to use a bit more dirt on the tyres in future.

Tamiya "Nato Black" is a good match for a modern tyre ....... But I'm not sure about colours for WWII colours as the compounds were probably very different and war shortages may have meant they were different still .........

The wheels have been at the bottom of a lake for a long time! They would originally been a blacker colour if that makes sense.

All the WW2 era tyres I've seen are pretty much standard tyre colour, not dissimilar to a modern car tyre. If anything the aircraft tyres are more black than modern car tyres, but I like to lighten them. It's one of those artistic decisions:)

Cheers
