Having purchased the plans of the Mud Duck and the Agri Duck large model aircraft I had difficulty sourcing the foamcore as the americans call it I finaly had to buy £100 worth of the sheets from the manufacturer so I now have enough to build for evermore. however it does mean that if anyone is building in foamcore I can give him 6feet x 4feet sheete for £5 per sheet the total building of the large Mud Duck only took three sheets! better than balsa.

My other reason for posting is to see if we can get any other mud duckers on board.

My own plane is not yet finished and I have had some problems with paint eating the foam. Does anyone know of a paint that does not eat foam ?I have covered the edges with paper as suggested but I could do without the hassle.

I also intend building the agroduck but much later. Our splash in at Loch Insh is coming up anybody made floats from foamcore?

Bruno, next time use artists acrylic, you can buy it in tubes or pots and it goes a long way, mixes with water but waterproof when dry-polyvinal acetate micro beads make up the main constituent, the range of colours is beautiful.

Forget conventional paints they are just too heavy and messy and will seep somehow into the joints as you have found out.

Another good product to use with foam models is that fibreglass stranded adhesive tape, not sure of its name but it is the variety they cover those rubber floormat type models such as the Bullet slope soarer with.

You can use it to seal and stick edges,by the way if you need to fuel proof the hot areas around the nose then use Johnsons clear,it comes in a bottle which lasts you for years, the real purpose is to give a sheen to floors, its really tough stuff and very thin, you will find loads of uses for this liquid, get a bottle when you are in the supermarket next.

I have some plans for that Mud Duck that someone gave me,it is a monster !

Hope that you find the above notes useful next time at least.

Forgot to mention-Ordinary emulsion household paint is ideal for use on foamboard, those small tester pots should give you enough colours,I know someone who paints all of his balsa models with emulsion, his finishes are superb,a quick coat of Johnsons clear gives a real sheen.

It is a Ruskie-Duck ! looks great in that colourscheme, very well done Bruno & Duncon !
