HELP,

can someone please give me a dummies guide to using resin parts ??

I have read that you need to wear masks and gloves and stuff but what about clean up and how long after you have cut something with your razor saw is it safe to remove your dust mask etc ?

Someone please help as I have loads of projects to start

I have a 1/24 scale Arfix harrier I have bought from ebay, it has come with various resin parts like a cockpit tub, ejection seat, side walls etc, it was made by Heritage Aviation if that helps

I also have a RF-4E phantom with an Aries kit in 1/48" and a monogram 1/48 scale prowler kits with resin kit to go with it

Dont know the answer mate. I use resin that is 2 part synthetic with fibre glass cloth and i dont ware a mask nor gloves, not even when dry and sanding. I think that if the kit poses that much harm it would have the risk factors and recomended safety proceedures within the box or even on the box. The exposure would be minimal if any at all. When people talk about masks and gloves im sure that they are relating to bigger scales... a lot bigger scales such as massive water butts etc where they would be applying gallons of the stuff and working in it all day long. A good rule of thumb is that if something his sharp and stings or makes or makes your eyes water then there is a vapour issue and glasses, mask and even gloves are required.

The other option is to look on the web for the product and try to obtain a data sheet. The Z-POXY resins that i use outline no risk whatsoever.

hi bigjayce , when i work with aftermarket resin stuff i have a bowl of soapy water nearby to dunk the bits in to wash the dust off , and a good wipe down of the workbench with a wet rag afterwards is enough . the 'hardener' part of most resins is highly carciogenic so inhaling the stuff is not recomended . the same goes for most two part fillers/glues , araldite , isopon etc . the usual 'elf 'n saftey malarkey .:blow:
