my IPMS branch is having a group build,.....theme is 'halftracks'

i think 3 or 4 of us are doing this rather elderly 251 kit from Tamiya...it was new tool back in 1973!.....but it still seems crisp with no flash......mines going to be towing an anti tank gun........not sure yet what scheme.......i fancy an Afrika Korp but might end up going for a tri colour

Hi Paul
I will follow this with interest. The Germans seemed to favour half-tracks in WW2 and there were so many types and variations. I like the Afrika Korps idea.

Hi paul

The memories come follding back. i remember this in 1973 - those figures were the bees' knees back then.

My seat is pulled up.

They still were 15 years later, if you couldn’t afford metal or resin figures (like, if you were a secondary school pupil having to buy models from pocket money :)).

Nice start Paul. I will join the growing throng if I may. Will you be doing all the figures?

Nice work on the camo Paul. Does the PAK match up to the tow hitch okay or have you had to modify it a bit?

and finished!!

had to replace the corner markers on the front fenders......kept breaking the kit ones, very fragile.....after the 4th time i just chopped off the bases flush with the fender tops, redrilled the holes, took a couple of sewing pins bent and trimmed.....the pin tops are even a similar size to the kit ones....far more sturdy

tracks are pretty dire since they are rubber band type but hey ho, whole thing was done on the cheap......half track was £12.50.....the PAK 40 was technically free.......had a £10 voucher from HobbyCraft from the loyalty card,....gun was 6 quid

had a black wash then an oil filter wash, then used my splatter nozzle in the air brush to lightly mist on a coat of light mud brown on the lower half of the vehicle

more pics in the finished thread
