Yeasterday was the 75th anniversary of VE Day, and today we celebrate the 75th Anniversary of the liberation of the Channel Islands. it is an additional bank holiday and the biggest celebration of the year in Guernsey - sort of our national day, what 4th July is to the USA.
Being the 75th it was going to be very special with loads of events, cavalcade etc, but like the UKs VE Day celebrations, everything was cancelled. The ultimate irony of the day is that we are celebrating the 75th anniversary with less freedom than under German occupation! Still, it cannot be helped and it is for the best.
i thought I would share a few wartime photos, the 2 are quite well known German photos, used for propoganda, while the third is of the liberation.
