I've just got the latest Tamiya Modelling International magazine and saw an advert for the new Heinkel 162 Salamander.

It does seem to have taken Tamiya a long time to get around to making some interesting and slightly unusual WWII Aircraft but this one looks like a really nice kit and includes metal landing gear and resin wheels.

By a remarkable co-incidence my Heinkel Salamander was out for a photo shoot today ! see tomorrows blog,this one is a bit smaller but you will just love the special pictures I just know.

I bought the latest version of the Stormovik flight simulator to bring with me this time and it includes a 162.

Even on that you realise just what a handfull it must have been, especially to pilots used to the performance envelopes of propeller driven aircraft. It took quite a few attempts to get it off the ground and I still haven't landed it yet!

nigel gave me the exact same piece of advice a couple of months ago!! plus there are no after-market parts for the tamyia salamanda where as there are for the Revell one.

it does look a lovely model though!!!

The thing that impresses me about the Tamiya kit is that it comes with a seperate engine that you can either display on a stand next to the aircraft or have it opened up in place.

It looks stunning and perhaps the reason there are no aftermarket bits for the Tamiya kit are......because it doesn't need any!!!

Richard the revell kit comes with a superb engine plus a good cockpit and it is cheaper than the tam kit you really cant go wrong

I'll check them both out. I must admit the quality of the U-Boat was a bit of a surprise.

I didn't used to rate Revel in years gone by but they (unlike Airfix sadly) seem to have been able to keep abreast of what is required.

very true..well...in terms of fitting yes..but in terms of quallity of plastic no.

yes their kits may now 98% of the time fit togeather with no gaps but their plastic still can not compete with the likes or tamiya, hasegawa (who have gone leaps and bounds in the past year or so) and italeri (who have lept and bonded even thurther than hasegawa to make sure their kits come up to now days standards)
