discussion hello from frustrated boat builder

Ive just discovered the forum and would like to say hello to the members. Ive been modelling for 20 odd years, mainly planes, but for the last 6 I've been building boats as my job entails spending lots of time working on and in planes (RAF) and I was sick of the sight of them. I tend to build plastic kits and then make a scale rc model based on that kit. I currently have a 48"perkasa based around the tamiya kit,a 33" RAF asr based on the airfix kit and have just finished a 60" s-100 class schnellboote. All as close as possible to 1:24th scale including engine numbers (nine so far). So with this array of boats Knocking around you might ask why am I frustrated. Well the simple fact is I want to do an aircraft carrier and the wife has said a big fat no. So need suggestions for a suitable plastic kit that when built up would provide a good basis for scaling up, and would not be huge compared to these already quite large boats(my wife's 4'11" so anything over six foot is well out). Any help and advice that you might be able to give would be greatly appreciated.

Firstly a very warm welcome to the scale models forum. I am sure that you will have had a good look around and seen what resources we have to offer and I hope that you feel like contributing yourself at some point.

As for Aircraft Carriers, probaly the best compromise between size and detail that you could use would be the Tamiya Enterprise. I believe Nigel is involved with one of them at the moment so I am sure he will give hs views later.

I am actually just in the process of converting the Revell 1/72nd U-Boat to RC and was quite surprised at just how much I am enjoying it. The main reason was to give me an accurate kit to base a conversion of the Robbe U-47 at a later date but I am enjoying the Revell build very much in its own right. I would love to see it eventually on the water with a 1/72nd Corvette or the Schnellboot.

Enjoy the forum, we are quite a relaxed freindly bunch but have quite a bit of experience at our beck and call.

helo and welcome tankrat , As BB ha said the tamiya Enterprise is a cracking model with plenty detail, however is also some 350th from trumpeter, lexington,hornet,yorktown etc etc..

for something a bit different ,trumpeter do the Admiral Kuznetsov ,

or you could always scout about for a ww2 convoy carrier. which is much smaller, but still an unusual topic.
