I am an avid boat builder and scrap/scratch build from junk most anything i can think of. I tend to build in large scale from 1/35 to 1/15 scale, both naval and commercial. I don't build pretty models, mine tend to be working boats which I can weather and beat up. Good stuff - I like the Armoured Bulldozer - a nice unusual subject too!

What do you use when you are weathering to get the rust effects?

Hi Alan, thanks for the comments

The rust is made from a variety of things, as rust comes in different forms, staining I use wood stain (acrylic) washed and gradually built up, the heavy duty stuf is a mixture of ground pastel chalks of varying shades, applied with a brush, then diluted with thin superglue, then build up the efect with more pastel dust, for patches of wet / oil thin superglue dripped on the deck and moved with a cocktail stick gives a good effect, for oil, use ground pastel black around the axles and again dilute with thin superglue. Hope this helps..

The bulldozer came from a photo I found on the web, every model LCM model I every saw has had a tank in it, when in fact the LCM3 stuggled to carry a full size battle tank, that was what the LCM6 was developed for. Sorry i sound like an anorak....

Welcome Simon,

Some very impressive work on your models there, I am sure you will get plenty of questions as to your techniques for dirtying up and weathering as the models in your photos look superb. As stated by Alan above, the armoured Bulldozer looks great....it even looks heavy !! No need to worry about sounding like an anorak on here, nice to see research being done, after all, it helps for better models and that is what this site is all about.

I am sure the pusher Tug comes in handy at the local pond too with stuck models out in the water !!

Thanks for the welcome guys, its good to see a forum that covers a wide range of modelling, I have dabbled in most things, I did/do model armour, i raced 1/10th electric off road seriously for 10 years (damned expensive) and still have my train set in the loft from days gone by.
