Hi all it may be a while before I start this as I have a 1/8 corvette stingray coming and I'm entering it in a big scale gb so that will take priority.
Anyway I thought this looked like a great kit with loads of potential for improving it, so here are a few pics of what you get in the kit, it was a chrissy present from my bro (thanks again jim)

Mmmm, I will be interested to see how you do these. Often fancied one.

God this kit brings back some bad memories about 15 years ago I had a bad bike crash and was hospitalized for months and to relieve the boredom my then partner got me this it took me age's to build it.
A coup!e of tips ken bent match's can b straightened by leaving them in hot water for a while and acrylic floor polish will give the finished model strength I'm not sure how it works but I begged some off the cleaner as I wasn't allowed varnish on the ward

thats ok ken now rember its not water proof so try not to turn it to a remote controll ok or another bat man boat:D:p

just saw this ken , can't wait to you start this one mate , never heard of this one type of kit , looks interesting

Now this is going to be one hell of a great build ( patience of the gods I fear will be needed)
When I was a kid I remember my uncle had built a titanic out of matchsticks

Great choice

Good luck

Hi all, well where do I start, I knew this would be a challenge (never tried this type of kit before) well if I do another, and that's a big if, I will change somethings there are no tabs just gluing edge to edge with the cardboard also they've modelled it with a flat deck (As we all know they're not they're curved to allow the water to run off) I've adjusted that the cardboard is very soft and thin also there is a bend into the middle of the hull template in order to fit it in the box since I've glued the hull together the sides toward the stern have gone concave so will have to unglue those and make some formers for ti to keep it out, I would suggest to future builders you trace the parts out not thicker and stiffer cardboard and add some tabs to increase the strength and make gluing easier.
Anyway here is where I am now .

I figure I will matchstick all the sides then sand them all down smooth and paint it rusty white or black also I intend to make the masts and stuff out of other materials

are you just picking this kit up again ken , looking forward to it , are you still doing the soleil ?

Nice start Ken.
I had a bash at a matchstick ship kit a while back. I must confess it beat me. Not the actual construction, (I worked with wood all my working life) just trying to get the finish neat enough!

No matter what I tried, I couldn't get the finish smooth enough to look like steel plating, and I could still see all the match construction.

It burned well - but not for long.

Despite the doom and gloom above, I'm sure yours will be just fine and I look forward to your updates.

Ron
