discussion Hot weather effect on models

I was just wondering how the hot weather would effect the kits i have in the loft.I have quite a few made up models stored in boxes etc and with the very high temperatures of late , just what happens to the glue? I have visions of finding lots of gaps and bits missing when i venture back into the loft.

It all of course depends on just how high the temperatures are but it is certainly a concern.

I don't think that glue will usually be an issue as basically the glue has become fused with the plastic and behaves as a single material.

The main concern will be that the plastic will become softer as the temperature increases. This could lead to warping of some large items,such as hull or fuselages, or deformation of small detailed items such as ships masts etc.

I would certainly check up on them if the attic temperatures are getting very elevated and would consider moving them to a cooler place if the plastic is getting hot or maybe put a fan in the area to keep the temperature down a bit.

You don't want to leave it until you see any damage as it will almost certainly be too late to do much about it by then.

I have had lots of kits in the attic some warp some dont !! Easily fixable with hot water though

well we always open the loft hatch in hot weather, it also helps keep the upstairs cooler as the hot air isnt all trapped in the top of the house.try it, it works!!

....could save a few models as well!!!

well my 1:48 B1B is up there as well as my B-52 i hope they are not damaged!!!
