discussion How do you store your models?

Hi All,

I'm just curious to get some ideas on how best to store one's completed models? I don't have the space to display all of mine, but was wondering if anybody could share with me how they store their completed models? Ás everyone on here has,I am sure, already experienced, an airtight environment would be best, to prevent dust buildup as cleaning models is nearly impossible and very very risky!

I make my own boxes seal them up tag them so I no what they are then up the loft they go and I get them down from time to time to look at what I've done That's until I can get my loft turned into my work space that is John

That's what I'm thinking of. What do you make your boxes from? Cardboard?

IKEA do a very nice glass display cabinet for £40. It has a footprint of around 40cm X 35cm and stands about 1.8M tall with 3 glass shelves and a bottom shelf. A small footprint and I store my models in that, its fairly dust free and I can get at them and look at the models any time. Thinking of buying another one!! It's just the job.

I really wish we had IKEA where I live (Johannesburg)! They do make some exceptionally good display cabinets! Unfortunately, during our winter months it gets very very dry and dusty, and after breaking my third aerial while cleaning a model I've decided it's time I pack them safely away somewhere airtight! I bought three plastic 'airtight' storage boxes...and discovered that they were anything but air tight! So the search for a suitable alternative continues...

With regard to dusting my good lady kidly gave me one of her old large blusher brushes which I find does the job nicely as it's broad but very soft bristles dust without causing any damage. My current plans for storage once I board out more of my loft this winter (too hot up there to do it in summer time) is to custom build a ply or mdf cuboard against one interior wall (luckily my loft doesn't get damp). The obvious advantage of custom building is that I'll be able to create just the right space for the models I've built + what I'm planning to build. (didn't ever intend to have a stash but the bug has taken me and I now have a stash of 4 kits which no doubt will just get bigger.

That's what I'm thinking of. What do you make your boxes from? Cardboard?

I start with the box it comes in and any old cardboard boxes I have in the loft I keep any good boxes I have store them for when I've finished my model Hope this helps

At the moment, mine live on my window ledge.

Dusted with aforesaid blusher brush, when needed.

But they are only 1:72 tiddlers so don't take up much room, lol.
