Just looking at importing some goods fro hongkong just wondered how much to add to my order before I order.the cost of the goods with shipping is £120 how much I going to get stung...????

cheers again for any help

Are you ordering from Lucky Model?

I've ordered quite a lot from there and have never had any extra to pay and I think my highest value order was around £110 (I'm assuming you're talking about import taxes?).

Although I've never done it (I'm too honest), if it's them there is the option to "declare low value" thereby reducing the chance of having to pay import taxes.

I'm sure there will be people on here who have been stung, though.

Think you will have the possibility of two payments. Import duty & VAT. Vat at 20% & do not know what Import Duty is. Jersey stuff imported into the UK is charged these amounts & collected by the Postman or the Carrier on delivery.

Regret that Jersey has messed things up a bit as the UK Customs has cracked down on small amount imports & the £18 limit (think that was the amount) has been scrapped.

This is due to the industry here in Jersey & also in Guernsey exporting into the UK low cost goods & avoiding VAT.

I have to state that this "scam" was in my opinion totally immoral.

got it One how long did you have to wait bud

I don't know if this will help...: - New Import Duty & Taxes Calculation | DutyCalculator

I've bought R/C parts etc off e-bay from Hong-Kong & China and never had to pay any duties, I once bought a couple of travel mugs, 4 normal mugs and a couple of sweatshirts from the US (car owners club) and got stung on the duty, infact it cost me more than what the total of the items was, so am not sure if the duty is different between importing "toys" and other items...

When the products are all shown as "In Stock" the fastest was 18 days and the longest was 24 days.

Be aware, if the stock is shown as "Available" it could take months (it will be as long as it takes them to get it - in my experience they're in no hurry so I only buy stuff that is in stock).

One other warning, if you choose the "Low Value Item" option (and this is the reason I've never chosen it), I think customs have the right to open any package if they suspect it is not "Low Value" and you would open yourself up to fines and all sorts.

On a goods total of £120 from Hong Kong (or US) you wont get charged Duty tax you'll only get 20% VAT added to the total.

Duty tax is only payable on plastic model kits over £135 and is set at 4.7%

VAT is calculated on product and postage costs combined.

Duty tax is calculated on product only.
