A day that I will remember for ever. The sun blazed out of a near cloudless sky & Jersey turned out to welcome the Olympic torch.

Great icon the torch but my joy was to see people families enjoying themselves. The surrounding bars were empty. People talking to their stranger neighbours. The Police outriders on bics high fiving the people & children as they went by.

Just stunning. 3 or 4 deep all through the five mile journey. Came to Jersey in 1962 & I have never seen anything like it. The cauldron in the square was lit & later all 12 parishes lit their torches & travelled back to their respective parishes where Barbeques & celebrations took place. It was just a day of days.

The women carrying the torch is Sally Minty who has swum the channel, amongst a host of other things, 4 times each in a different decade.

The first picture is of the sculpture in Liberty Square. Represents the liberation of Jersey in 1945.

Excellent Laurie ... nice to see a bit of old fashioned neighbourly stuff going on ... this is sadly missed in most parts of the UK now.

Glad you had a day to remember :)

Is that what it look's like when the SUN thing shines and the Blue clouds come out....

Yep Andy that is it & got a red face to prove it.

Just announced there were 20,000 Islanders who turned up that is one fifth of the population.
