On my way home from Wolverhampton I took a detour via Hannants in North London with the intention of some window shopping and seeing if they had one of Airfix's new tool 1/72 Harrier GR3. The first thing that caught my eye was the pile of Revell Shackletons on the shelf and next to it Meng's Convair F-106 in 1/72 scale.
This isn't usually something that I would be interested in but the box art looked good and when I took a look inside the contents looked amazing, at £29.99 they ought to be.
So what do you get? Seven sprues of superbly detailed surfaces with fine engraved panel lines, three schemes on a nice decal sheet, a booklet style instruction sheet, crystal clear canopies and an etched brass fret with instrument panels and crew ladder.
Looking at the instructions there is the option for posing the forward avionics compartments open with moulded detail on show. There is also a radar scanner but the option of posing the radome open isn't clear. Other nice touches include a bomb trolley, intake blanks and moulded seat straps.
I have never built a Meng kit before but I have read some good stuff about their armour, going by the contents of this little box so far I can not wait to build this kit.
