Hi all, I'm currently building 1/32 P-51D Mustang. This is the first time i try preshading with flat black, then I used the flat aluminium (all Tamiya enamel paints). Am i using the right colour for Mustang? Try searching in Google and most people used alclad, can't buy it here unfortunately. Any inputs are greatly appreciated. And comments for the preshading please.

I find that with silver metallics unless you put them next to each other you can't tell what they are so I think your alright to use aluminium , as for peshadeing I'm a hairy stick guy so I can't help you there

Remember that the fuselage and tailplane were natural metal (aluminium) but the wings were filled, smoothed, primed and painted with aluminium paint. There was a visible difference between the two finishes.

I think the pre-shading looks good! As does the cockpit.

You always can add a simple wash on the lines.

Polux, when i want to do a wash, should I spray the whole model with gloss coat?

I would. It will offer some protection to the underlying finish and any wash is much more easily removed from unwanted areas if applied over a gloss finish.

I'm agree with Steve.

Anyway I usually work different...I don't like to work with varnish, and if it is necessary, I use a semi-gloss or matt one. Have to say I always dilute the wash, is more "near" a filter. This kind I can do more soft or strong the effect depends how many coats I apply.

With a normal wash you have to retire the excess of paint with a clean brush (then is better a gloss coat under the wash), with a dilute wash without varnish you will mark the line and the rest will look "Blurred".

My advice is paint a little piece of plastic sheet and play with some washes, then you will see the difference and you can choice each one depends of your model or idea.
