am I the only one who is not bothered about this next instalment?

I grew up with the original trilogy and they were fantastic but I've been less than impressed with the resent outings, they just didn't have the same impact and looked a bit more tacky , maybe it's an age thing but with most of my mates acting like they were when the first film came out I'm not so sure

I'm not sure bout the new one. The original trilogy were excellent. The newest three were ok.

Gonna ignore all the hype over this one so. Hopefully I will be surprised and it will be good

I was hoping they wouldnt bring Darth Vader back or something and mess up the storyline, but since the new trailer was released it doesn't look like that's the case. So now I'm just waiting to see how it turns out :D :)

I think I've worked out why darth faders helmet was in the new trailer and why the bad guy wants to avenge his death

It's a clone of luck skywalker and he's been lead to believe that his father was a good guy by some evil Lord of the sith.

I'm off now to join a Star Wars site and ruin it for them lol

George Lucas is a berk. "I had the story line all along...blah, blah..." Then why not start at the chuffing beginning then! Not chuffing episode IV...right, rant over for now.

Episodes IV, V, VI are terrific, no CG, models and great sets. George had to go back and ruin them by adding stupid CG crap.

Episodes I, II, III are okay if you take them as part of the Star Wars universe...take them as they should before the other films and they fall about in a hopeless crappo fest of Midichlorians, "Roger-Roger" baby talk from the droids, and then later dialogue from the battle droids..."That's a Jedi Starfighter all right." I mean WTF?! Vader builds C3PO and knows R2 yet seems to have totally forgotten all about them in EP IV onwards. Those films along with George Lucas should be fed to the Sarlacc. End of, no more discussion.

As for the new film...we shall see, not holding out for greatness.

There are only three Star Wars films and they are 4/5/6 the others are cartoons and the next three will be cartoons, for evidence check out jj Abrams other major films , just look what he did to Star Trek good films but not Star Trek and not even close IMO

You have to move with the times, would you rather see the new films with cut out shapes around them where they have super imposed the models on?

Phantom was the worst movie there's no doubting that, but Sith had all the right elements of been a great lead up to Episode 1.

I'm not sure I agree about Star Trek, the first reboot was good, the second left me annoyed and a little flat though :)

If you want to count opening day figures, please count ALL Marvel francises and Star Wars films, Jurrasic films pale compared to the numbers :)

Now don't get me wrong, I already have my tickets booked for Force Awakens, as always I will be in the queue on day one like I have for all previous 6 :)

I agree Ade, but instead of addressing issues and tidying up he added so much over the top crap it just ruined them. I think we do need films to have cg, but sometimes more can just leave you cold and not add to the story just detract.

The big difference with CGI and an actual model is the model looks more realistic on the big screen all CGI looks like a cartoon , with digital clean up now you can do the model and it looks like it's real , digital CGI never gives the feeling of being real

When Lucas ruined 4/5/6 by cleaning up the models and then adding the CGI to do the films he wanted you could tell the difference by a country mile , CGI is great for tv but the big screen is awful IMO

Each to their own isn't it?

My brother was at a decent age when the first ones come out and I was born at the start of the eighties so I missed the hype. I'm sure I watched bits of the first ones on TV when I was little but everyone always bangs on about them and say things like "what? you never seen them?you ain't lived" and such.

A little while ago someone said just give them a go and do it in order so I watched the episode 1 or whatever it's called, when I say I watched it what I mean is I gave it a go but my god! Honestly I thought it was effing poo!

I can see why if you were brought up with the originals there is a lot of love their but to be honest if I want to watch a timeless sci fi starring the geezer from Indiana Jones I will be watching Bladerunner... Now there's a film!

I probably would have been interested more if they had re-imagined the originals or even started back at episode 1 again but this time done it properly and done some proper casting rather than picking out the obvious usual suspects and making it a bit more gritty.

Is that enough of a rant?

Seeing as Alan is getting all good at figure painting maybe he will be doing a battle scene from one of the original films ( the hoth battle is the best ( before cgi ) that is

Robert

Star Wars when it came out first time Lucus did what he did with what he had budget and all and let's face it 4/5/6 were brilliant. There it should have stayed as it was a good versus evil ( Robin of sherwood and the evil sherif of Nottingham ) etc etc

He had made his dreams come true ( but what of 1/2/3 we have new story's but do we? The rise and fall of Anakin Skywalker? From boy to Darth Vader Obi one journey? ( fozzie beat? ) I mean Yoda all characters we later know and love but I think CGI has gone too far. I have watched all 6 films back to back and I have looked at the battle scenes in 4/5/6 and without cgi they look realistic enough to believe but blue screen / green screen computer generated I can't see the real action or the proper vehicles in depth ( like anakin and obi ones ( tie fighters ) the water chutney things the wookies ride on in episode 3 or the early is it assault craft ( star destroyers or early versions of the ATAT. Yes I know it's all make believe but there are too many holes in the films 1/2/3 to make me believe and rush back to watch more

Terminator Genysis was good and believable ( Lucus never hashed that up )

But then again it's all about what brings kids to the cinema and CGI seems to work. They made the Spartan film 300 in an aircraft hanger ( cGI )

Ok that's me had my moan too

I'm off to the wizard of oz now and dream of Judy Garland!!!

Oh dear! Lots of grown-ups getting in a tizzy about the latest children's film!

I'll be going to the pics to watch and simply enjoy the escapism of it all. Who cares about plots, characterisations, CGI vs models etc. etc. etc. ad nauseam?

Love 'em or loath 'em, the original Star Wars films broke a lot of ground for Sci Fi films and now there are loads of 'em around. I wonder how many Sci Fi blockbusters would have been made without them to kick start it all?

Tizzy...TIZZY! 'Wailing and gnashes teeth. stamps foot and throws stuffed wookie out of cot." :D

True, it is escapism and as you said Dave, the originals have given a lot of enjoyment and sparked creativity for other film. But that is just it, the keyword is originals...not the half baked hallucinations of EP, I, II, II.
