I have inherited 2 original models made by Norman Ough

one is of HMS Repulse crafted in 1925 flying the flag of Vice Admiral Sir Lionel Halsey conveying HRH the Prince of Wales to Africa and South America in 1925. Scale 1/1200

The other is of HMS Nestor Commander the HOn EBS Bingham which was sunk by the German Battle Fleet Jutland may 31st 1916. It was made in 1927 scale 1/384.

Both are in glass case s in superb condition.

I would like to have some idea of their value and whether they are of interest to any collectors of such.

I know Norman Ough was on of the most gifted model makes of the 20th Century.

Robbie you have asked an impossible question,the worth of these models like many similar is what a buyer is prepared to pay for them,having said that and because they have been built by a true connoisseur they are that bit special,certainly worthy of any museum.

Just take a look at a portion of similar items that have appeared over the months on E-bay,and that should give you at least an idea of what people are prepared to invest in such specialist models,just recently one aircraft builder has been offering professionally built examples of kits for sale,looking at them surprises me that so many people offer that kind of money.

The only way to sell them is to do some research,settle on a minimum that you would be prepared to accept,then place them on with a reserve to safeguard you.

As these may be original Ough models, then the only thing to do is to get them professionally valued, probably by one of the auction houses. I would suggest either Bonhams or Phillips. You may even like to contact the National Maritime Museum to see if they could help you.

They would certainly be of interest to maritkme collectors.

First of all welcome to the Scale Models forum and what an interesting opening post!!

Norman has been responsible for a great number of very highly regarded model plans over the years and these models, if they were built by him, could well have been used to generate such plans.

They are very much into the category of "priceless" so, as such, I would very strongly recommend you seek proffessional advice before deciding on what to do with them.

It is very rare nowadays that Ebay would have such a rare find on its listings as more and more sellers seem to be going for fast turnover toys rather than valuable colectors items.

Do some research, get proffessional help and, if you want to sell them, I would use the services of a reputable auction house or specialist dealer.

I would certainly not let them go to the first person who offers you what may seem to be at the time a generous price.
