Hi All

how do you make a oil wash and how do you use it.

Sorry brief request but at work
 
I use oil washes for the inside of aircraft. Black oil paint mixed well with white spirit so the mix is more like dirty white spirit than paint and I then apply it to the surface of acrylic paint that has been 'wetted' with white spirit. I allow it to run into corners and ridges with capillary action creating shadows and a used appearance on the base colour from the film left on it. What colour oil paint I use depends on model etc but most commonly black or burnt umber (or a mix of both).

I then drybrush detail.

Pretty much what I do. It's important not to overdo it. Here's a Merlin complete with wash.
