discussion paint volume ratios

Can anyone offer an easy explanation please. When measuring paint out for the AB its easy to work out a 50/50 or a 50% mix. But should I want a 60/40 mix for example how do I go about mixing a small quantity for my airbrush.

These days I do it by eye, but to be as precise as you can, use a syringe or pipette. They have graduation markings so you know what amount you're using.

+1 for transfer pipettes. I too go by eye (some paints are more tolerant of approximation than others) but the pipettes I use are the 5ml version, graduated at 0.5ml intervals. If you need to measure accurately they will do the job nicely.

I find that a pipette works ok but if you do say 2cc of paint and you want another 2cc you don't know when to stop unsqueesing because before you know it it's gone above said mark so I tend to do it by drips ie ten drips of one colour to five drips of another then I thin by guess work tamiya needs about thirty to fourty % thinners depending on the colour but this is just my way one thing I do know and that's there is no hard and fast rule it's just practice you will get a feel for it after a couple of models this is just my opinion

I use Vallejo in dropper bottles so I count the drops, so for 60:40, 6 drops of one and 4 of the other, then thin as needed.
