Please could you tell me whether painting enamel over acrylic would work. Also out of interest can you paint acrylic over enamel
 
Enamel over acrylic may be problematic. The solvents in enamel paints will often react with the acrylic paint. I've got away with painting enamel details over acrylic bases,things like levers or knobs in a cockpit.

The other way around (acrylic over enamel) should be fine as long as you allow plenty of time for the enamel paint to dry and cure.
