discussion Paints for model cars?

As I'm thinking of joining in with the muscle car group build some guidance on what gloss paint to use through my airbrush for an optimal finish would be greatly appreciated. In the past I've used rattle cans (smelly and prone to flooding) and tamiya paints(mixed results). As I've never been 100% happy with the final results I was wondering if any of the car/bike modellers could offer any help advice or guidance. I've heard of zero paints and was thinking of giving them a try any help input advice or proven recommendations will be greatly appreciated. I'm sure if I could perfect that "showroom" look I'd build more cars.

Zero paints are very good. They impart a glossy smooth flawless finish that are perfect for cars, and are the go to paint for cars

Thanks John ill get some and give them a try. How many gloss coats should I apply and should I "knock back" the previous layer. Thanks for your help much appreciated John

Zero paints are very good but they are not gloss paints they dry to a Matt finish and have to be clear coated they also have to be applied over a primer and up to 5 coats to get full coverage some colors require less also they are solvent based so use in a well ventilated room hope this helps

Thanks Steve you'd think by now some manufacturer would have come up with a no fuss no mess no smell and phaff option. Maybe I'm to impatient for car spraying after all as it seems you have to put in lots of work.

I used Tamiya red gloss on my Ducati. It was airbrushed over white primer with a couple of light coats leaving to dry for a few minutes between each. I then went over it again with a heavier 'wet' coat and put it to one side to dry naturally to a good gloss.

Once the decals were on and left to dry overnight, I did exactly the same with Klear (floor polish), quick light coats, left to dry for 10 minutes then a heavy coat, being careful not to flood, and that was it. Quite happy with the finish I got.

listen to what Meggsy said mate- I only saw it second hand with other modellers using it! , however, I have seen superb results with them. However, I don't know reliable sources to get it from

If your looking for a supplier of zero paints hiroboy is your place to look they stock all the products you'll need and every color under the sun and if they somehow don't have it they'll mix it up hope this helps
