hi guy's having probs with pc every so often. When I turn pc on I get black screen off death so I have to turn it off again from boot up, and then turn it on again and it's fine, not good help please

Try booting and hit the F8 key until you see a menu
Scroll down until you see Last known good configuration select this.
If it boots ok I would suggest a full back and rebuild as it sounds like your OS is in a knot
Hope it helps

What operating system are you using? My dad had a similar problem with his Win 10 machine after an update, I just used system restore to go back to before the update, it's worked fine since.

I'd try the system restore first before more drastic options, it may sort it out.

Yep I agree, wouldn't be the first time a windows update screwed things up.

doing reset now up to 36% at moment, asked it not to loose files with all pics in I hope it doesn't or I will be peed off, hope this works ok now. If not down to pc repair shop or hammer either way it will work or not can not afford new motherboard at moment or hard drive so hammer out off question shame that will make it work from little bits and piece's

Thankfully it wasn't the graphics card like mine.:mad:
Just installed a new card - hopefully it won't die last the last one - made sure it was compatible.:rolleyes:o_O:)

James, just in case it was the first sign of a hardware failure, now is a good time to copy all the files you don't want to risk losing onto DVDs or an external drive (or both, if you're a pessimist like me).

I would say regular back up of your computer is vital. I use my lap top for work as well as personal use and a loss of data would have serious implications for my business and pleasure.

SWMBO is also self employed and a few years ago her computer's hard drive failed. She hadn't backed up for several weeks and needed some of the lost data. It cost a LOT more to recover that data from the drive than buying a back up drive and scheduling regular automatic updates.

It doesn't matter whether your computer is for business or personal use, there will be 'stuff' on there which you either don't want to lose, or can't afford to lose....Back it up, it's worth it.

Cheers

Steve

Is it a shop bought computer or a built up one? Reason I ask is that shop bought PC's usually have very low output and low quality power supply's. Replacing it with a half decent or better quality one might be a good idea, especially if you have upgraded your computer in any way (even more ram requires more power).
