Hi Guys,

My first post on the forum. I bought a tube of Deluxe Materials 'Perfect Plastic Putty' from John after seeing a very positive review on Phil Flory's website.

Amazing stuff! It comes in a plastic squeezy tube with a seperate applicator nozzle. It has the consistency of tooth paste, dries hard and fast with no noticeable shrinkage. It feathers and sands beautifully and cleans up with water. In my own humble opinion I think it's better than Vallejo Plastic Putty. well worth a try.

Good to have confirmation. I have recently used Humbrol "Model Filler" to fill three places. It is a little stiffer than toothpaste, dries slightly slower than Squadron Green (which I find dries too quickly while smoothing), to a pale grey colour. Sands very well and takes a polish. Accepts Mr. Surfacer 500 or 1000 if necessary to fill any remaining uneveness before final sanding. It did not shrink at all, even when applied in several layers. The only thing against it is that when sticking on a strip of Dymotape for re-scribing, the tape pulled off a very small bit of the set putty. The tube advises against putting on in thick layers because it might attack the plastic. Presumably this is because its solvent would take a long time to evaporate and have time to affect the plastic. I don't think that would be an unavoidable problem.

Hi Steve, I haven't used Humbrol filler for many years (I think it used to be called Britfix if memory serves), but I have tried many others. Vallejo putty as I said in my previous post, Milliput, Squadron white and green to name a few. They are all pretty good for some jobs and not others, like most things in life I suppose?

However, I really cannot fault this stuff. I am working on the Italeri Wessex HU5 at the moment and have had a couple of minor filling problems to deal with. This new putty really has done a perfect job, even in places where the filler is paper thin it has sanded down to a polished finish with no signs of crumbling or detaching at all! It's easily workable for two or three minutes before it starts to cure, perfectly sandable after half an hour or so (depending on thickness).
