Col Bowden was instrumental in bringing the free flight power model to virtual perfection, his comparitively heavily loaded ( for the period ) mostly hardwood construction models were to make the most of the small petrol engines beginning to gain popularity in the UK,with the open spaces then available for free flight modelling some of these designs were to make long flights.

A classic picture shows a bowler hatted Col Bowden standing in a small car through the sun roof with the large model poised ready to launch as flying speed was reached to launch the model !

The very prolific production output of models was emphasised after the death of Col Bowden when hundreds of wings could not be matched to the various fuselages when his workshop was cleared,a few models survive in collections in memory of his aeromodelling exploits which were many including the flying of model seaplanes from Poole harbour.
