Hi guys,

Can Pledge Multi Surface Wax really be used as a sealant prior to weathering? I've been trawling the internet trying to learn more about pin washing and this stuff seems to keep cropping up as an alternative to something called Klear.

I'm just amazed that a floor wax could be used for this purpose and wanted to check before I buy some and spray it over my freshly painted model. :)

Cheers,

Bob

Apparently it can but I cannot get my head around using floor polish and have never used it.

I use Alclad Aqua Gloss personally, sprayed at around 10psi neat. It works well and two coats 5 hours or so apart do the job. Like all acrylics it should be allowed to cure for at least 24 hours (some leave it 48 hours) before applying washes or any aggressive treatments.

Bob the original klear was an acrylic wood liquid floor polish and it was good because of its self leveling properties I'm not sure about the multi surface wax.
Try searching the forums I'm sure there's a thread somewhere on here.
Once my stash is exhausted I'm going start using normal acrylic varnish again

Many years ago someone indeed discovered that Johnsons Klear could act as a gloss varnish. Many people, including me, loved it for its even coverage, self-levelling properties & resistance to enamel based washes.

Since then it's undergone packaging & formula changes, to its detriment. As Barry says, the modelling world has caught up & there are better products out there now.

An interesting read is here

Yes It can I use it all the time especially on my gundam kits as you don't need to paint the kit before using this.

Thanks for all the replies.

Scott, how do you apply it, just airbrushed straight from the bottle?
