Al the P's!!! haha

Well anyway you may remember I posted about having my 1st flying lesson recently. Well I'm on around 5hrs flight time and today I did 8 circuits, more or less unaided and it was among other things, very enjoyable and a fair bit of hard work! Lots to remember and lots to monitor but with practice I get the impression that a lot of it will become second nature, as some of it has already, (flap retract height, HASELL, FREDA, BUMPFICH, trimming for various attitudes / speeds).. So according to my instructor I am making good progress and should be looking at getting my class 2 medical sorted soon, in prep for my 1st solo! Phew, so a lot been happening and I'm being challenged, which I love and I get to fly, which I also love!

Just thought I'd keep those interested, up to date.

Cheers 'n' beers

Stuart

Sounds like you enjoyed that then! Dare I ask what BUMPFICH is an acronym for?

i wanted to ask that as well, sounds like a medical condition

Well what you guys interpret is none of my business lol!

Sorry it's BUMFFICH, the check on the downwind leg of a circuit in preparation for turning to finals

Brakes: parking brake off, pressure in toe brakes, Undercarriage: down & locked(n/a on a c152), Mixture: full rich, Fuel: tank selected, contents sufficient, Flaps: selected if needed, Instruments: functioning, DI aligned with compass, Carb heat: hot before descent, Hatches & Harnesses: secure.

There ya go - one free theory lesson!

Stuart

Stuart. I have my gliding licence and was most of my way through my microlite conversion until funds stopped me flying. I spent many hours looking at these checks lol

Thread owner
Superb Al, I hope to get some gliding done as part of my aviation career as well! I too had my share of checks when I flew in my cadet days but that wasn't exactly yesterday...

Gliding is great but remember one vital thing.... you only get one chance at landing. There aint an engine for a go around lol

Thread owner
I'd only make that mistake once!!! Knowing my luck I'd be suspended 6ft in a gorse bush!!!!

When I last flew the landing check was BUMPFFICH with the P in the middle

Brakes

Undercarriage

Mixture

Pitch (prop pitch, fine / coarse)

Fuel

Flaps

Instruments

Carb heat

Hatches

I guess it's feasible they cut the Pitch section as it's seldom applicable to trainer models as most are fixed pitch

that'll be the one! I knew id seen it with a P before..
