discussion Pre-war Austen 10

My grandfather bought, second hand, an Austin 10 in 1938. I learned to drive and passed my test in it. (Now I think on it, I took my first real girlfriend out in it. That was really cool, in those post-war years !) Here it is:

I would like to build a model of it. Any ideas please on where to look for a kit? I have searched the Internet.

(I don't think I could make a convincing scratch-built version.)

The tamiya "tilly" could be a starting point for you Steve

Its 1/35 so a little bigger to work with.

From looking at it you'd only need to scratch build the back top quarter and the grill would need to be changed for the flat type.

Thanks very much. It looks absolutely right and is the correct date of manufacture. Its 2 3/4 inches long so a little too small for me but if I can't get a bigger one I will go for it.

I found from my searches that I could buy a real one in running condition for about £4,500. I often think (rather too often for my mental security) about what a huge difference winning £500,000 would make. I could also be driving one of those Indian tuk-tuk three-wheeled taxis. It would look really good chugging up my High St!

I remember my Dad having one of these in the late 1940s early 1950s, even remember the Reg. COE 836. In the quiet country roads in those days I used to sit on his lap and steer the car. Halcion days. Thanks for the memory. Good luck with your search. Cheers Derek
