Im painting (well trying to) a 1:35 plastic strap and a wheel but as I brush the paint on it just brushes strate off again. The the wheel and strap have been under coated with airbrushed tamyia. Why is this happening. Effected paints are: Nato black, Dark yellow and german grey.

Hi Alexander, did you wash it and let it dry first and then a coat of primer before any painting. The washing gets rid of any grease or mould release agent that is on the kit and the primer helps to get your paint to stick better by giving the plastic a better bond. A lot of us use Halfords white or grey acylic primer but dont get the one that has filler in it as it fills all the detail, this will make a big difference for you . hope this helps.

Tamiya paint has a habit of doing this when brush painted. Thin it ever so slightly (I'm talking one or two drops in about 3 or 4 brush loads of paint, transferred to a pallet from the jar). this improves it's ability to stay on the plastic.

Stuarts on the nail with that, Tamiya paints are dreadful for hand brushing, I avoid hand painting with them, but if needs must, then I do a 50:50 mix with Klear, it will add a satin look to the paint, so a matt down will be needed after.

Hi Ray,

Am I reading this right? You use Klear to dilute your Tamiya paints? I just can't remember hearing of anyone else doing this with Klear although it seems logical.

Hi Gern, its very rare I handbrush Tamiya, but if I have to then yes a few drops of Klear with the paint, I think the Klear helps the paint to adhere to the plastic, and helps a bit with removing brush marks.
