discussion PVA glue?

I got some PVA glue from my local Wilko's recently thinking to use it on cockpit canopys and the like, and when I got it home it doesn't look right.

When I was a kid PVA was white and gloopy, dried clear with a rubbery texture, the stuff I've got is clear and seems to dry hard.

So the question is, is this PVA or something else pretending to be PVA?

Any help would be really useful as I've just used the stuff to create the desert dio for my M901 and the sand is not sticking at all well.

No ideaTony of different types of PVA except that theere is obviously a difference.

But recently when sticking down grass in sheet form I got my PVA from B & Q & it worked perfectly. White smelt like PVA worked like PVA & dried clear. Plus was cheap for the pint ype container.

That stuff sounds like its "gone off" Tony.

I think if the bottles are stored above or below certain temps for any time the acetate seperates or depolymerises, you may have just picked one up thats been in a frost or something.

I take it you've given it a good shake???? if so then i'd return it for a swap from a different batch.

When I bought it and looked at it my first thought was that they don't make PVA like when I was a kid, and then |I thought they must have changed the recipe,

Still, I didn't pay much for the bottle I got so I think I'll just call it a bad job and invest in another bottle.

i would use unibond. its 'genuine' PVA and is dirt cheap, get it from b&q. dries clear and has 1000's of domestic uses away from model making.
