Can anyone tell me how the 'views' total is worked out on messages ? Perhaps I have missed something here ? I can see replies is logical but how are the different views worked out, this has baffled me for a while now, probably a simple explanation to this.

I note that the views appear straight away after the message is posted before anyone has had time to give us their views,do you see what I am getting at ? baffled.

"Views", is how many times your thread has been read/viewed by yourself and other people.

Ah !! So it is not views as in 'Give me your views on the matter' more like 'How many times people have viewed' Chinnnngggg... the brain goes a bit fuzzy on your 59 th birthday, especially when you have been in the sun as well.

Like Saturday Adzam' date='wait until you grow old and bold, where do the years go to ?[/quote']Don't know young un - only know they get shorter and shorter.

The adage "When God made Time He made plenty of it" doesn't seem right - my share is diminishing by the hour.

"Views"' date=' is how many times your thread has been read/viewed by yourself and other people.[/quote']That allows me to pose a question with which I have been taxing my remaining grey cell.

How does the system recognise when I'm "on line"?

I'm never asked to give my password and my screen always shows that I am "logged in" when I connect.

Are "tracking cookies" employed here?

If so How?

I remove any "cookies" as soon as I find them - call me paranoid if you like.

Malcolm

Yes the site does use cookies but only for your login details, if before you leave the site you press the log out on the nav bar at the top it will delete your cookies, but if you are wondering how it knows how many posts there has been since your last visit all it does it checks the last time you logged on against the posts that have been made since then, no cookies needed, but you will have to log in again next time you come. :computer:

That could explain things...

...I've never, it seems, "logged off" as I only go back to the opening "Google" page and then shut down.

Does that mean, as I'm on Broadband, that I've been "logged on" since I joined up?

No, if you close your browser then you are no longer showing as being on the forum, when you press the log off button that just deletes the cookie, but there is no need to log off the cookie holds your login details and nothing else.
