Did the Bf109F-2 have a cannon firing through the spinner? I'm building the Zvezda 1/48 model, and just wanted to check before I drilled out the spinner!

Hey snapper, know I'm not steve, but your Q interested me, so I had a quick nosey on Wiki,

Messerschmitt Bf 109 variants - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

It gives info on your 109 and says it had a motorkanone firing through the hub.

More info at the link.

Hope this helps.

Tony.

That's useful Tony - thanks! I reckon I can drill without worry now...

Tony is correct. I just happen to have a digital copy of the mantenance manual for the F on my laptop from which I've copied this.

The wing guns were deleted on the F series. The F-2 had a 15mm cannon firing through the spinner and two 7.92mm machine guns firing through the propeller. This was considered too light by many pilots. The cannon was upped to the 20mm version on the F-4.

Cheers

Steve

I'm sorting photos and found this one. It's a Bf109F (from the date) and I'm pretty certain he is using that device to sight the cannon.

Cheers

" Klaus remember to not press the big red button "

Voice from the cockpit " what, this one? "

BANG!

Couldn't resist it! ;)

Nein! These are Germans, they would not press any buttons without having thoroughly read the manual such that they understand the function of every button and switch! :-)
