discussion quick question

Hi all,

Im off to buy an airbrush tommorow and one or two questions that comes to mind that i cant find the answer to on here is (sorry if i missed any answers) as follows.

Can you use ANY type of paint in an airbrush or is it only specific ones?

Also when thinning paints down what is the ratios? 50/50? 60/40? I really dont know so your help would be appreciated.

im not a master but as far as i know you can spray almost anything out of an airbrush, as long as its thinned down to a "milky" consistancy.

i have read that for enamels it is 50/50 but then some people say different. i think it all down to experimentation.

you might have to wait for nigels, barrys or richards responce to this!

As far as Airbrushes go I bow down to Nigels greater authority but basically you can put most paints through them.

The mix does vary from one paint to another but you are looking for that Milky consistency. At the end of the day experiment before you point it towards anything of value!

I would wait for some guidance from Nigel as to what type of brush as there are many varied types out there and there will be a best one for your needs and budget.

Hi Steve you can spray virtually any paint through an airbrush! Though some metalflakes i would avoud unless you have a large diameter nozzle and needle (or spraygun) In answer to your thinning question this also depends on the paint you are mixing but as a guide if you thin too much cut back on the airpressure or youl get spiders too thick you will get a coarse grainy finish as the paint dries virtually before hitting the model ! let me know what brush you are using, air supply and paint type and i can help you more!

Hi Nigel,

Well I have been out today and bought myself a Badger 200 single action brush and a TESTORS compressor that runs at 35 max PSI. I imagine I will be using Humbrol enamels and whoevers acrylics mostly but if you can reccomened paints types and makes Im always happy to try stuff out.

i have a badger 200, nice little brush and not bad money!! unfortunatly i cant afford a compressor.

sorry to steal your thread steve but can anyone reccoment a nice cheap compressor for me so i can have a look around on ebay. i know they have to have a pressure regulator and a water drip collector thingy.

what kind of price am i goin to have to spend here?
