discussion RAF Fordson Armoured Car - Iraq 1941 - 28mm conversion

The twenty-plus year operation of the famous Rolls-Royce armoured cars, first deployed in WWI and serving well into WW2, ended with the armoured bodies being transferred onto Fordson truck chassis
This is the 28mm Perrys 1940 Rolls Royce resin and white metal kit converted to one of the Fordson's. It's only a little bit of a stretch!
So, I did it in Caunter scheme because of course I did, based on a couple of photographs of one deployed into Iraq in 1941



By way of comparison, here's the Fordson with a 1920 Pattern Rolls Royce (another Perrys Item, a full metal kit)

So a few build pics

This is as completed, with the original kit wheels drilled out. Stowage is Debris of War items. Figures are Perrys, a driver and plastic 8th army. Heads are Atlantic BEF

The kit comes with the alternate open turret that became standard for most A/C in 1939-40

Not being too happy with the result of the drilling on the wheels, I replaced them with spares from a Rubicon kit. They came with the T-26, because of the turret commonality, but are actually for Soviet BA armoured cars... which I don't have, yet in my ever expanding early WW2 A/C collection

Yeah, so, I stretched it. Then had to stretch it a bit more. And then had to put in the visible suspension
Got there in the end

Well, I downsized from 1/35th because you can get just as many vehicles, cheaper, and in less space!
Still... there is a 1/6 Rolls Royce out there...
